Three Articles


Having accompanied thirty students to the Olympic Village to watch the semi-final of the women's handball, I concur with Blake Morrison. A pacific, friendly atmosphere, the site was similar to how I imagine a moon-base might feel. Everything shiny and new, there was ample space, the tarmacadam springy under your tread. Montenegro played clinical and efficient, Spain passionate but scrappy. Guess which team won...   



The great Ry Cooder has just released Election Special. After one listen, I like the sound of this one a lot. He is in fiery form here on the importance of the American elections. When he puts things like this, it makes you angry.

Lastly, this tremendous closing statement by Yekaterina Samutsevich at the Pussy Riot trial. Putin's power grab seems to be going unremarked in the West. I guess there's not that much we can do about it.
