It seems Jaques (A Prophet, The Beat That My Heart Skipped) Audiard's Rust and Bone has gone a little overlooked in the end of year polls. Which is a shame, since it has a pitch perfect soundtrack (Bon Iver) and a superbly unsympathetic, yet compelling, protagonist. The melodrama of the story - double amputee, bare-knuckle fighting, child at risk - might have overshadowed the way these are treated - as light containing a dark stone in a clasp. Tap tap on the glass and a great white might come your way. Or your son beneath the ice.
