Purcell Rooms, Royal Festival Hall 2013
'These are all just a best guess. Thanks for coming to hear the same songs again and again. I won't be coming back to England for a few years.'
'I was raised in Southampton, given TV dinners before the TV. Who can deny the elegance of living like that, entering like a queen? No one can. Well, you can if you're Russia.' (Introduction to 'Mr Jeffries')
'I used to dress to stand out. Now I see death everywhere, I just wanna hide.'
Notable performances: 'Gena Rowlands' Hair,' beautiful; 'My Burberry Shirt,' performance of the night; 'Heroes,' the band seem set to follow him till they collapse barely into the second line.

De Rouille et D'Os
It seems Jaques (A Prophet, The Beat That My Heart Skipped) Audiard's Rust and Bone has gone a little overlooked in the end of year polls. Which is a shame, since it has a pitch perfect soundtrack (Bon Iver) and a superbly unsympathetic, yet compelling, protagonist. The melodrama of the story - double amputee, bare-knuckle fighting, child at risk - might have overshadowed the way these are treated - as light containing a dark stone in a clasp. Tap tap on the glass and a great white might come your way. Or your son beneath the ice.
